This 1979 Mercedes-Benz 280SL is a European-market example finished in red with a black soft top over black upholstery. Five-spoke 16” wheels are mounted with 205/55 Riken Raptor tires that show 2006 date codes. The brake hoses are said to have been replaced in 2017 followed by suspension bushings and body mounts in 2019. Factory Bundt wheels are included in the sale.
The interior is trimmed in black upholstery with matching door panels and carpeting along with wood trim on the dash, center console, and door panels. The carpeting was replaced under current ownership, and a dash skin covers a crack in the dash surface. Amenities include a Sony stereo, a wood-rimmed Nardi steering wheel, a defroster/heater, Mercedes-Benz floor mats, and a first-aid kit stored in the trunk. The factory stereo and steering wheel are included in the sale.
VDO instrumentation consists of a 160-mph speedometer, a tachometer with an inset analog clock, and readouts for coolant temperature, fuel level, and oil pressure. The odometer shows 152k miles, approximately 3k of which were added by the seller.
The 2.8-liter inline-six is said to have been rebuilt under prior ownership and sends power to the rear wheels through a four-speed manual transmission. The fuel pump, filter, and fuel lines were reportedly replaced in 2021.
A stainless steel exhaust system was installed in 2018.
